Comparative of Inequality
We can form the comparatives using the formula:
More / Less + Adjective / Adverb / Noun + that.
Examples:
Marta is smarter than Sofia. (adjective)
She writes slower than the rest of her classmates. (adverb)
Marta and Natalia have more friends than Sofia. (noun)
Pablo is less cheerful than Pedro. (adjective)
Pedro arrived less late than Franco. (adverb)
Franco and Juan have fewer friends than Diego. (noun)
When the comparison is followed by a number, + More / Less DE is used.
but when the sentence is negative, use More / Less + than.
Examples:
I have more than five thousand pesos in my pocket.
I have no more than five thousand pesos in my pocket.
There are less than ten thousand people protesting.
There are only ten of my people protesting
Equality Comparatives
To compare features with different people or objects. We use the formula
TAN + ADJECTIVES / ADVERBIO + COMO
Tom is as naughty as Ivan.
The building is as tall as a tree.
EQUAL DE + ADJECTIVE / ADVERBIO + THAT
The ant is as slow as the turtle.
The syrup is just as sweet as the pill.
THE SAME AS...:
The movie ticket costs the same as the theater ticket
As much as
With nouns we use the formula:
TANTO + Singular Noun + AS
TANTA + Noun Female Singular + COMO
TANTOS + Noun Plural + COMO
TANTAS + Feminine Noun Plural + COMO
Examples:
My sister drinks as much milk as I do.
(Remember that in Spanish adjectives must match their female / male gender).
Tamara is ten years old and reads as many books as an adult.
Diego speaks as many languages as Juan.
