ADJECTIVES IN COMPARATIVE DEGREE The comparison is used in English to compare differences between the two objects that it modifies (larger, smaller, faster, higher). It is used in sentences where we compare two names, in the following way: Name (subject) + verb + adjective in comparative degree + than + name (object). The second term of the comparison can be omitted if it is understood from the context. (see the last example). Examples My house is larger than hers. This box is smaller than the one I lost. Your dog runs faster than Jim's dog. The rock flew higher than the roof. Jim and Jack are both my friends, but I like Jack better. ("than Jim" se sobreentiende) Comparative adjectives are adjectives that are used to make a comparison between two nouns for example The blue shirt is   better   than the green shirt. La camisa azul es mejor que la camisa verde. This book is   longer   than that one. Este libro es más largo que aqu...

To understand the superlative in English, the first thing you need to know is that adjectives have three different degrees: An adjective to a positive degree is limited to describing a quality. (adjective) Pedro arrived less late than Franco. (adverb) Franco and Juan have fewer friends than Diego. (noun) When the comparison is followed by a number, + More / Less DE is used. but when the sentence is negative, use More / Less + than. Examples: I have more than five thousand pesos in my pocket. I have no more than five thousand pesos in my pocket. There are less than ten thousand people protesting. There are only ten of my people protesting Equality Comparatives To compare features with different people or objects. We use the formula TAN + ADJECTIVES / ADVERBIO + COMO Tom is as naughty as Ivan. As we have seen, adjectives describe qualities of nouns. Some of these qualities may vary in degree or intensity. As in Spanish, when we want to make comparisons we contrast qualities or attributes by means of adjectives in their various degrees. Grades of Adjectives Adjectives that can vary in degree or intensity have comparative and superlative forms. In the next section, there are the rules on how to form these comparative and superlative forms. The positive degree The positive degree of adjectives, which we have seen above, is the quality in the simplest degree.   fast (fast), hard (hard), smart (ready), pretty (nice),   clean (clean), large (large), small (small), old (old),   easy (easy) ... The comparative degree When making comparisons, we can hig...
